About Us

With women's field hockey starting to expand in Calgary, particular for those girls who had recently picked up the sport in junior high or high school, the Scorpions Field Hockey Club was formally created in 1999. The mandate of the Scorpions FHC is to provide opportunities for relatively new (female) players ranging in age from 14-20ish, focusing on players who are still in high school or who have recently graduated. Most of the players are introduced to field hockey in Grade 10 and many want to keep playing beyond the regular (C.S.H.S.A.A.) high school league.

The additional training and playing experience has helped many players develop their skills and confidence and enabled them to enjoy further success on their high school teams. As players develop their skills and experience and graduate to more senior level teams, they are invited to return and help coach, organize and eventually run their own team and develop their coaching skills as the club and league grows.

The Scorpions FHC started informally a few years ago with one team of high school players in the indoor league. It has since grown to 3 indoor teams (Scorpions, Saints and Warriors) and 1 outdoor team (Scorpions), which entered the CLFHA Ladies' C-League during the 2000 outdoor season.
